About

Koen Overmars (PhD) is a researcher specialised in the analysis of land use change and its effects on biodiversity, climate, food security and sustainability. Koen has studied land use change at local, national, EU and global level. Koen has extensive experience in land use modelling and statistical analysis of land use processes.


Currently, Koen is taking up assignments at the interface of science and policy, for example, review of scientific literature, policy analyses, and scenario studies. Koen has experience in (scientific) reporting, conducting interviews, and various consultancy services. Current topics Koen is working on are: ILUC (indirect land use change resulting from biofuels production), REDD (reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation), tropical land use and deforestation, and biodiversity effects of the Common Agricultural Policy.
